The exterior of a house encompasses many components. To help understand them better, we can group exterior components into three broad categories: Exterior cladding, exterior structures, and surfaces water control and landscaping. The inspection of the exterior is important because problems in this part of a building can be expensive to repair. Exterior problems can lead to damage to the some of the components are not readily seen from grade level.
The function of the building exterior is to –
- Protect the building structure and interior from damage due to water and snow, wind, pests, and mechanical damage
- Provide reasonable security
- Enhance the appearance of the house
